The concept of sustainability must be present in each step of the design process. It is wrong to think that it is just something a part that could be applied in retrospect. Energy certifications must be used in order to guide architects and engineers along each step of the project.
LEED, for international projects and VERDE, in the case of Spain, are the most acknowledged tools to make life-cycle analysis, in order to measure through a whole range of criteria (not only energy but also water use, interior climate quality etcetera) the ecological footprint and environmental impact of projects. These rating systems were developed by Green Building Councils to generate integral and transversal design strategies that guarantee sustainability and efficiency in projects.
Energreen Design offers consultancy for international projects (LEED) and in the specific case in Spain (Verde) and Italy
